Slog Series Adventurers

Below, you can read about some of our adventurers who brave rugged terrain and punishing elements on a consistent basis. For some, its about pursuing personal goals; for some its about a means to make charitable contribution to society; and for others it's a little bit of both. And, of course, TCK Slog Series is for each of these nothing less than gear essential.

Slog Series Adventurer - Jesse Boyd

Jesse Boyd

Hometown:
Vale, NC

Birthdate:
2/15/1976

Slog Series Gear Essential:

Terrace

Bio:
Jesse is into peakbagging, bicycle touring, and long distance running. He started building his resume in the late 1990's and has since summited more than 300 peaks, including adventures in the Himalayas, the Andes, and above the Arctic Circle; extensive peak-bagging in the Sierra Nevada; big Cascade Volcanoes; some jewels of the Rockies; and plentiful worthy peaks in the Appalachians, including all 40 Southern Sixers. He has bicycled across the United States twice, and his footrace of choice is the half-marathon. Jesse also holds a fourth degree black belt in Teashikido and has helped teach at a local martial arts dojo since 1994. In 2006, after years of using TCK's athletic products as efficient and durable tools in a variety of outdoor slogfests, Jesse pushed for and helped develop the Slog Series.

The above pursuits are really more of a platform for TCK Reaches Out, a program whereby TCK, through Jesse's own charitable organization, provides the less fortunate with quality socks in various circumstances and locales all over the world. From the homeless of America's city streets to Nepalis in Himalayan villages, from Tibetan nomads high on Northern India's Changtang Plateau to children in Moldova, from remote peoples in Bhutan to the elderly on the streets of Istanbul, a plethora of aching feet have been blessed by these efforts.

Check out the Slog Blog and read about how Jesse recently completed a bicycle route connecting the farthest ends of the road in the United States (i.e. Key West, Florida up to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and then down to Homer, Alaska). From May to September of 2009, he pedaled more than 4,200 miles while promoting Slog Series Green for the ride and Racesox's RX700 for daily recovery. Along with this, TCK Reaches Out targeted the homeless of America's streets and Natives of Western Canada and Alaska, freely distributing more than 16 dozen pair of socks to those in need along the route.

Slog Series Adventurer - Dylan Harris

Dylan Harris

Pursuits:
Rock Climbing, Mountaineering,
Trail Running, Bicycle Touring

Charitable Work:
Solid Rock Climbers
The Shepherd's House

Hometown:
Bend, Oregon

Birthdate:
5/8/1976

Slog Series Gear Essential:
Stamina
Topo

Bio:
Dylan's first climbing trips began in high school when he would just start walking toward whatever peak grabbed his attention, not stopping until he reached the summit. Back then, he knew little about maps, compasses, route finding, etc.; he just blazed a trail. Dylan later applied the same raw determination and recklessness to rock climbing and claims "it's by the grace of God that I'm alive to climb today considering how I used to go about it." He's since undertaken many noteworthy adventures, including a bicycle tour from Canada to Argentina (11,007 miles); the much coveted Thunderbolt Peak to Mt. Sill traverse in the Palisade region of the Sierra Nevada; and epic high altitude ascents in the Andes and the Himalaya. Dylan attributes a portion of his success to the TCK socks he wears on every adventure. He currently lives near Smith Rock in Central Oregon where he can be found most days climbing and trail running.

After college, Cheri began her adventures as a translator for a hospital ship headed to Nicaragua. She loved being on boats so much that she pursued a job as a deckhand on a cruise liner, cruising from Canada to Costa Rica and various points between. After a few years on the water, Cheri headed back to land and hiked solo from Georgia to Maine on the Appalachian Trail. Later, she migrated to the West Coast and took up racing sailboats and making high performance racing sails. On a bicycle tour from Canada to Mexico, Cheri met her husband, Dylan. Soon thereafter, they would get married and then pedal together from San Diego to Tierra del Fuego at the bottom of the Western Hemisphere. Cheri currently resides in Bend, Oregon with her husband and two children. On a regular basis, she enjoys rock climbing, snowboarding, backpacking, hiking, biking and lazy days floating the Deschutes River. Cheri is also a potter, running a studio out of her home. Some of her work can be viewed HERE.
